When was the last time you had an eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is extremely important to your overall health. It not only supports your vision needs, but can assist in determining more substantial healthcare issues. We have been in Westwood Village for over 40 years and have one of most experienced optometry practices in the area. We welcome new patients and look forward to meeting you.

Eye exams at Village Eyes Optometry in West Los Angeles are designed to be comprehensive. An eye exam begins with a thorough history and a discussion of the reason for visiting as well as any other issues that the patient is having with their eyes. Family history, work environment, computer time and other factors can affect vision. During your exam, we recommend regular dilation to more fully access the health of the eyes.

In addition to accurately measuring vision, it is important to design a proper prescription so it best suits a patient’s needs. A thorough eye examination tests for glaucoma, eye muscle problems, or any evidence of astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia. In addition, it is important to address all of the vision needs of patients as they age and begin to have near vision focusing problems.

Your Eye Exam

The eyes are examined from the front to the back and in between. The front part of the eye is examined with a special microscope called a “slit lamp”. Proper neurological function is measured, the insides of the eye are measured, and digital photos are often recommended to best allow us to ensure the health of the eyes. The blood vessels within the eyes are checked for signs of diabetes, hypertension and other vascular conditions such as elevated cholesterol. The eyes are checked for any signs of inflammation, infection, allergies, dryness or anything else that can contribute to eye discomfort.

Should a problem be detected, we will either treat it or refer you to a specialist for further consultation.
